LumpedĀ-parameter electrical analog of the circulatory system and continuous flow LVAD (cfLVAD).
LumpedĀ-parameter electrical analog of the circulatory system and continuous flow LVAD (cfLVAD)

Electrical analogs are used to simulate the elements of the vascular system. Here, in this lumped-parameter model, the flow is represented by current and pressure by voltage. Resistors are used to represent hemodynamic resistance, capacitors for compliance and the inductors for inertance. This model consists of the numerical representation of the left and right heart, the systemic and pulmonary vascular impedances, and the septum.

A model of a rotodynamic, continuous flow LVAD was connected to the nodes a and b of the cardiovascular model in the figure, representing ventricular to aortic cannulation.

The simulator employs a unimodal elastance model to explore the hemodynamics of the mechanical circulatory support.
